Arena Racing Company (“ARC”) today confirm plans for investment into the racing surface at Sedgefield Racecourse. Work will take place over the course of the summer, and will see the popular Ladies Day event move from its traditional August date to the fixture scheduled for Friday 14 April.

The project will primarily focus on the area between the back and home straights, going into and out of the final bend, with the major groundwork anticipated to take between six and eight weeks to complete, with further time then required to fully re-establish the racing surface.

Specifically, this project will look to address the historical topography of the final bend to make improvements to the entry radius as well as the overall camber.  On completion, this specific area of the racing surface will also benefit from an improved radius, offering a more optimal transition from the back straight to the home straight.

Managing Director of ARC’s Racing Division, Mark Spincer, said, “We are pleased to announce this investment into the racing surface at Sedgefield, and specifically into the area around the final bend.”

“Reconfiguration of the bend and its camber represents a significant civil engineering project, which will get underway following the end of the season in April. We anticipate that the majority of the ground works will take between six and eight weeks after which our team will work to re-establish the grass sward across the affected area.”

“We look forward to getting underway with the project, before working with colleagues at BHA with regards recommencing racing again in August.”
