JOHN WADE AND COLLINS HURDLE SERIES

John Wade has notably sponsored the Selling Series at Sedgefield Racecourse for a number of years, however in 2012 John Wade & Collins Seafoods Ltd decided to kindly sponsor the Hurdle Series at Sedgefield for 2012/2013 culminating in the Class 2 Hurdle Final that will take place on Friday 22nd March 2013. With almost 100 horses qualified so far, this Hurdle Final carries a prize fund of £18.5k for the lucky winner! We would like to thank John Wade & Collins Seafoods Ltd for their continuous support at Sedgefield Racecourse.

THE DURHAM NATIONAL

One of the highlights of the racing calendar here at Sedgefield is the Durham National race that will take place on Wednesday 24th April 2013. This Class 3 Handicap (3 miles, 6 furlongs) race is sponsored by Sean Magee, a horse racing journalist who has a keen interest in the Durham National at Sedgefield and has agreed to sponsor this race for three consecutive years starting in 2012. With the prize money having an increase of 50% from £10k in 2012 to £15k this year, we are once again hoping to attract some of the leading owners, trainers and riders for this year’s renewal.

The Sedgefield history of the 2013 Grand National Winner

Auroras Encore, winner of the 2013 Grand National, trained by Sue Smith and assisted by her husband Harvey, started his career in February 2007 & first appeared at Sedgefield in March 2007. His first career win over hurdles was at Sedgefield in December 2007 followed by his first Steeplechase win on his 2nd start over fences also at Sedgefield on Boxing Day 2008. The only other racecourse he has recorded two wins at is Aintree! Auroras Encore will make a special guest appearance in the Parade Ring at Sedgefield on Wednesday 24th April 2013.
